It seems that Prussian Blue have become very internet savy. There are many ways they have promoted themselves on the internet and many ways fans can interact with eachother.

the above site is quite interesting to subculture studies, although it is very boring and repetitive.

A fan is initiating themselves onto the Prussian Blue website. With this, whoever they are is made very welcome by at least 5 other forum regulars.

I think this demonstrates the closeness of the group of fans who love Prussian Blue. They have become a culture within themselves. Many blogs i have found with people saying they love Prussian Blue come from very diverse backgrounds. Yet they are brought together from the love of this terrible music.

From some of the topics I found on the officail Prussian Blue fan site, its clear that fans also are very defensive of their favourite bands. They are quite the close knit group, even though there is diversity in the subculture (gay skinheads).

Recently, Viceland magazine's Jesse Pearson did a interview with Lynx and Lamb, and, well you can make your own mind about their answer to the follwoing question...

What do you think is the most important social issue facing the white race right now? Do you have any songs that address this issue?

Not having enough white babies born to replace ourselves and generally not having good-quality white people being born. It seems like smart white girls who have good eugenics are more interested in making money in a career or partying than getting married and having a family. And yes, we are working on some new songs about this issue.

Prussian Blue's Favourite Bands

I mentioned previously that the skinhead subculture has derived from diverse roots, and the music itself is varied, for example Skrewdriver doing a song about love (with no racist connotations).

Prussian Blue is obviously a key example of a band that skinhead bands can be different to the norm, yet have a look at who is Lamb and Lynx’s favourite bands:

“We really like Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, Three Days Grace, Green Day, AC/DC, and Alison Krauss. For racial groups we like Final War, CutThroat, Saga, Max Resist, Youngland, Brutal Attack, and of course Skrewdriver. What diverse tastes the girls have! I wonder what Green Day (a band with recent political views against the conservative views) think about a racist band loving their music.

It makes you wonder if the girls themselves understand the notoriety of their music and how this is seen my the mainstream, indeed mainstream bands. It seems they only have ‘regular bands’ and ‘racial’ bands in their minds when it comes to favourite music. What I find most interesting is the fact that they really really really love Barney. Firstly this bring a tear to my eye that these girls ARE only 12 or so should be home watching tv instead of being head liners at KuKlux Klan concerts. But most importantly, from any memory I have of Barney’s tv show, Barney always has children on who come from diverse backgrounds. Asian, African and other children from different races, frequented the show and were involved in all the activities. I am pretty sure, looking through an archive of the show, you would find many songs about ‘getting together with different people’ and other themes of tolerance etc. This may just prove that the girls from Prussian Blue are just blind to underlying themes of mainstream tv programs, and then blind to themes of Green Day, yet I find that Prussian Blue’s favourite bands are just examples of how the band want everyone to see them.

Bands such as Evanescence, Green Day and Avril Lavigne, appeal to teenagers and tweens. From mentioning these names, the duo are aligning themselves with mainstream bands to probably appeal to such a mainstream market. Perhaps the Barney reference is to soften their image. The mentioning of the racial bands are highlighting their alliances to being in association with race hate music. And perhaps even getting people thinking, “well, I like Green Day and Avril, so maybe I will like bands like Skrewdriver and Final War”. Hence spreading race hate music and white power ideologies to the masses.

This site may have words which may offend, but the comments posted concerning the girls, their music and their attitudes are quite interesting. I presume there would be a number of other websites that a just as opposed to the music of Prussian Blue as this one. Which looks at a number of opinions on Prussian Blue, from a group of Japanese friends.

However, from further reading, this website. The site is dedicated to discussing issues relating to Prussian Blue and offering their opinion regarding the detrimental and embarrassing nature of the band.

The opinions found on this website compared to the opinions on the above websites are completely opposed. It seems that online opinions FOR Prussian Blue are often linked to regulated skinhead websites where you need to register to offer opinions. There are many other sites and blogs and opinion pieces scattered all over the internet.

As I found on http://www.prussianblue.net/bio.htm the band, Prussian Blue sings songs that reflect their White Nationalist beliefs. In their minds, “today, if you are White ,and proud to be White , it is considered Politically Incorrect by the media”.
“The music that Prussian Blue performs is intended for White people. They hope to help fellow Whites come to understand that love for one’s race is a beautiful gift that we should celebrate.”

And would you like to hear some of the beautiful musical gifts, Prussian Blue have to offer? Download any song from Prussian Blue and hear for your self. The girls are bad singers. Period. They cannot hold a note and lack pitch in all the right places. In my opinion, the instruments which are a guitar played by Lamb, and a violin, played by Lynx are not recorded properly and sometimes drown out the girls voices (I am not saying this is a bad thing).

Yet they are successful amongst other skinheads, have played at various skinhead music festivals and are part of the skinhead record label: Resistance Records. One interesting element of their success have been covers of other popular skinhead bands, like Skrewdriver.

In Fragment of the Future (Prussian Blue) the song, Gone With The Breeze is a Skrewdriver cover, in tribute to Robert Mathews, Leader of the white separatist organization "The Order".
This cover aligns Prussian Blue as part of the skinhead culture. If they weren’t they couldnt get away with doing a cover of a song by a band with such different styles of music. Especially since their music alone is an acquired taste.

Through researching some lyrics by Skrewdriver, I found :”I don’t need your love”,

In these lyrics, there is no evidence of skinhead ideology. From just listening to this song, you could be mistaken this music came from just an ordinary run-of-the-mill punk band. This song is similar to one of Prussian blue’s songs about boys. Therefore Prussian Blue is very much following the footsteps of other Skinhead bands that have come before them. Adding their own unique style.

When most people think of “skinheads” I think the most vivid image in their heads would be – a bunch of men screaming racist hate, covered in tattoos and not the most friendliest of a next door neighbour if you are Asian/African/Middle Eastern/ etc.

But I am here to change these assumptions.

This band is lead by two young girls called Lamb and Lynx. Cute, aren’t they. I bet that’s what the men covered in tattoos at skinhead concerts think too.

Prussian Blue is of course a Skinhead band. Yet they do not have a music style of hardcore punk and rock like most bands, they are folk. The band is not lead by scary looking men, yet two pretty young girls.

The most interesting aspect of this band is that they do not fit the mould of a typical skinhead band. How can they be an authentic skinhead band when they are completely different to the norms of the skinhead culture?

This first entry is a simple introduction to the band, Prussian Blue. Further entries will delve further into the interesting features of the band and their music and their media space, yet firstly I want to try and illustrate how such a band can exist in this subculture that is known for its hatred of things different.

From my first essay, I found that the skinhead subculture itself has had quite varied origins. The skinhead movement was not originally to do with racist music or ideology. From my research it was evident that skinheads are largely influenced by an indigenous and non-racist subculture known as "hardcore”. Even Hebdige (1988) linked skinheads to the British “mod” subculture in the 1960s. This subculture was organised around a multicultural combination of fashion and music from the white working class and West Indian subculture of delinquents, the rude boys.

I am sure that skinheads would not admit to these origins, being associated with ethnic appreciation of music. Yet it seems that the skinhead subculture is now changing to fit a different market.

Bands these days can be mass marketed to reach more people around the world. But not just bands, people can now become a commodity, just like celebrities. Music, ideologies and merchandise associated with people can be consumed on a more frequent and efficient market. Just think of the empire the Olsen Twins have created for themselves. They were just the little girls in a tv show in the early 90s and now have dvds, music, clothes and an empire that would make any child star envious. From globalisation, mass media, and the proliferation of Olsen mania on the internet, the Olsen twins are now an interesting part of some peoples lives.

Now compare the Olsen Twins to Prussian Blue (O’Hara: 2005). On the surface, Prussian Blue have squeaky clean girly attitudes and are quite successful. So imagine if they had an empire like the Olsen twins where the tween market were listening to lyrics like “Where freedom exists for only those with darker skin ... Aryan man awake/How much more will you take/Turn that fear to hate." From the song: "Aryan Man Awake", Prussian Blue.

Sure these lyrics may be quite upsetting for some consumers, yet Prussian Blue also sing soulful melodies about boyfriends, and other girly stuff.

So Prussian Blue can appeal to tweens, because their music targets tween interests. Prussian Blue can also appeal to people who love folk. Yet the lyrics and ideology is what most importantly appeals to the skinhead market.

Both sites have ideologies of a racist nature and support white supremacy. Many skinheads hit these sites to offer opinions on forums, buy merchandise or gather news that interest people in white people’s successes over other races. The catch cry “white pride, world wide” emblazoned on the Stormfront website is also featured in the Prussian Blue site.

Thus it is quite evident that Prussian Blue is very part of the skinhead community, although they have varied features to the typical skinhead bands. It is their ideologies and beliefs that come out through their music that give them authenticity as a skinhead band.

It is perhaps their other features, such as being lead by two girls, singing songs about boys and their proliferation on the web that may make them the most successful skinhead band to come.
